Leila Menchari , the design director of Hermès, was in charge of sorting out the 50 rooms – and it shows. They’re a mix of neutral shades with outbursts of colour and soft, rustic fabrics. Rare woods and Carrara marble indicate that the lady from Hermès didn’t shave the expenses. Four suites have private hammams, most rooms have Jacuzzis and all have cracking views. There are no back rooms.

Rooms and Suites

This will purely become the moment of your day.

Deluxe Junior Suite Marina View

Come enjoy the signature place to sleep…32 rooms in total in the building (51m2), a place that exudes a casual, welcoming informality, certain to impress even the most experienced traveler. All rooms are equipped with plasma screen TV’s, minibar and a marble bathroom with walk-in shower with BISAZZA mosaics. Also, those rooms feature a corner salon with a sofa.

Understated elegance in a fantastically positioned boutique hotel, Port Palace Hotel faces the Prince’s palace, overlooks the Formula One Grand Prix Circuit and is just steps from the casino. With immensely stylish rooms, La Marée restaurant and a fabulous spa, whatever your reason for visiting Monaco, this is one of the best places to stay. Behind an exquisite facade, with blue tinted bay windows set in satin finished stainless steel, the Port Palace reveals a calm and sophisticated world which allows room for space and plays on the purity of the lines in its architecture, decor, and furniture. The 5 floors of the hotel have 5 different themes (air, rock, sea, sun and sand) which are reflected in the colour of the marbles used in the bathrooms, the leather shades and the choice of fabrics.

Sleek, stylish and minimalist, the 50 spacious rooms and suites at Port Palace Hotel benefit from beautiful views of the harbour and sea. The light-filled interiors are decorated in creams and whites with splashes of colour. Settle in with a relaxing treatment at the spa or ensure you stay in a corner suite with its own steam room.

Before spending the evening at the casino, dine at the seafood La Maree Restaurant on the top floor of the Port Palace Hotel. In summer, sit on the terrace and watch the comings and goings of yachts in the harbour while enjoying a fine wine from the 20,000-strong cellar.

Location

Right by the Port Hercule, where the big yachts cluster, the Port Palace’s seven floors back into the rock-face which rises to the Monte Carlo headland. The views across the port to the other headland (with Monaco-Ville on top), and then out to sea are sensational. And you’re five minutes walk from the central Place-du-Casino.

Dining

The top-floor bar is perhaps the best (public) spot in Monaco from which to contemplate the principality in general and port in particular. It’s also a good vantage point for the port-side stretch of the Formula 1 circuit. Alongside the bar, and with similarly startling views, the fish-focussed La Marée has replaced the Port’s former Mandarine restaurant. Some claim that it’s the finest fish restaurant Monaco has had for ages; others have apparently suffered pretty mediocre service there. I have to come clean: I’ve not been since the format change-over, so have no informed view – except that it seems to be rather expensive: lunch menu is €45, with dinner mains from a little less. A full dinner might nudge the €150 level.
