International Fleet
Airbus A340-300
The Airbus A340-300 is the flagship of the SWISS fleet. Thanks to their operating range of about 11,000 km, the four-engine long-distance jets serve all SWISS destinations around the world. Non-stop and with full payload. The modernised Airbus A340-300 offers the innovative pneumatic seat technology for complete comfort in SWISS Business. The A340 is the true ‘marathon runner’ of Airbus and holds several long-distance records. The attractive winglets give the aircraft an elegant appearance. Moreover, those features on the tips of the wings help to save kerosene as they substantially reduce vibrations on the wings.
Airbus A330-300
SWISS is gradually introducing the Airbus A330-300 as the flagship of its long haul fleet. By March 2011, ten units of this brand new aircraft type will be in operation for SWISS. These 236-seat aircraft will operate with a configuration of 8 First, 45 Business and 183 Economy Class seats. Powered by two Rolls Royce 772B-EP (Enhanced Performance) engines. The Airbus A330-300 will offer both the new SWISS First and SWISS Business Class featuring innovative air-cushion seat technology for complete comfort adjustability. Following the introduction of all its Airbus A330-300s, SWISS will be the first airline in the world to offer First Class on all its long haul flights.
Green gains as well
The new SWISS Business seat on the Airbus A330-300 is probably the lightest of its kind. The air cushion alone makes the new seats some four kilos lighter than they would be with conventional foam padding. The weight reduction will save SWISS over 650 tonnes of kerosene a year, and this in turn will lower the company’s annual CO2 emissions by over 2 000 tonnes.
