In amongst the Pilanesberg mountains stands The Palace of The Lost City-a tribute to man's imagination and reversed for its art and architectu re. It is truly one of the 'Leading Hotels of the World '. Faux elephant tusks, sculptured bronze & crystal, richly moven colours of Africa, mystery-scented air and jungle cascades fuse into an atmosphere fit for a king.

With fresco ceilings above and ancient tiles below, you are left to stand in Awe at the sheer scale of this masterpiece. The wild elegance and savage beauty in bronze and stone culminates in a life-size sculpture of the mighty elephant shawu, who takes pride of place in the elephant courtyard.

Golf
Sun City has two incredible world-class golf courses set against the rugged backdrop of the Pilanesburg mountains. Sun City's two, par-72 championship golf courses offer visitors to Southern Africa's premier resort an exciting and challenging golf experience.

The exotic allure of the Lost City Golf Course and the championship nature of the Gary Player Country Club test the grit of many a fine golfer. Both courses were designed by South African golf legend, Gary Player.

Valley of Waves
The Valley of Waves Water Park is a central feature of the Lost City. This R830-million African fantasy world immerses visitors in the atmosphere of an ancient, exotic civilisation.

The 18-hectare playground of the Valley has been described as the best in the world. The Valley of Waves opened in December 1992 and recreates the mystery and marvels of an old age mythical civilisation on 25 hectares of exotic jungle, threaded with a wonderland of waterscapes, and adventure areas in the Valley, which is the largest and most imaginative of its kind ever created.

This aquatic wonderland has hosted events and functions such as Elton John and Ray Cooper, Jean Michel Jarre, Nedbank Million Dollar Golf functions, South African Breweries, Saphilla, Treasure hunts, Springbreak, Summer Holiday programme, Miss World, Miss South Africa, New Year Bash 2000 to name but a few.

All resort residents enter the park free of charge by presenting their resident cards. The Valley of the Waves is open daily from 10am until 5pm in winter and 9am until 6pm in summer. Please note the park is closed for annual maintenance between May and June every year.

Gaming

Sun City's two casino areas now cater for smoking and non-smoking guests. They have also introduced the Smartcard cashless gaming system and are open from 1pm weekdays and 11am on the weekends. There are a combined 600 slot machines between both the Jungle Casino at the Entertainment Centre and the Sun City Hotel Casino. Tables players can also enjoy are Blackjack, American Roulette, Poker and Punto Banco in both smoking and non-smoking areas.

Dining & Bars

Drink in the view while sipping a cocktail by the pool or in the gracious Tusk Bar. Then succumb to the culinary splendour of the Crystal Court or Villa del Palazzo, where you can sample signature dishes from Michelin star chef Conrad Gallagher. It’s no wonder business is pleasure at The Palace, with luxurious banqueting and conferencing facilities ranging from the sumptuously appointed Council Room, to the sub-divisible ballroom of the Entertainment Centre. Within The Palace are three meeting rooms opening onto the Elephant Atrium dominated by the life-size bronze sculpture of Africa's famous elephant, Shawu.

State-of-the-art equipment is available and 24 hour professional assistance is on hand. Banquets at The Palace are also a memorable experience due to the fine dining banquets and breathtaking scenery. All of the conference facilities at The Palace are superbly elegant and reflect the prevalent African theme. The Palace features the following venues:

Orchid Room / Protea Room Each room is 7m by 6,5m, and in total can accommodate 80 people in theatre style seating. The decor carries an element of the rich, verdant foliage of the gardens and dramatic carved-stone design features.

Royal Chamber    Another luxurious room with doors set beneath arches of windows which overlook gardens. This double volume area can accommodate 90 for a banquet and 180 in theatre style seating. Within the Royal Chamber; mahogany paneling reaches up to the hand-carved ceiling with elephant heads serving as corbels. From the coffered ceiling hang four three-tier chandeliers in bronze and faux horns. At the far end of the room is a console table resting on carved elephant legs.

Council Room   This boardroom can accommodate 14 people and opens onto a terrace. The superbly hand-carved chairs surround an oval table inlaid with six different types of wood. Carved wood paneling decorates the walls with French windows on the eastern side opening out onto a spectacular view of the resort.

How to Get to The Palace of the lost city

Sun City is most easily accessed by road from Johannesburg, which is approximately 150km away.
Hotel also offers the choice of private transfers or shuttle transfers departing throughout the day from Johannesburg International Airport or other Johannesburg Hotels.

• Travel north along William Nicol to the Fourways intersection at Witkoppen Road.
• Turn left into Witkoppen Road passing Fourways Mall on your right hand side.
• At first set of traffic lights, turn right into Cedar Avenue.
• Proceed for 8.5km to T-junction and Lion Bridge supermarket will be on your right.
• Turn left and then take the first right-hand turn, proceed for 2km to T-junction passing over the R28 freeway.
• The chicken farm on your left then turn right at the T-junction onto the R512.
• Carry on straight until you reach the next T-junction (R27) passing Lanseria Airport turn-off.
• Turn left on the R512 to Magaliesburg. Drive for 9.4km further on, turn right (R512) towards Brits.
• Cross the railway line and onto the bridge over Hartbeespoort Dam.
• At the T-junction turn right (R512) to Brits. Travel to a major four-way stop.
• Turn left towards Brits and Rustenburg. Pass the first turn-off to Brits.
• Travel straight on, pass the Tropical Gardens on the right hand side.
• Then you will pass the R27 on the right and the sign board for "Sun City - 89km".
• Travel straight on for approximately 20km to reach sign board then turn right, cross the highway for a direct route to Sun City (79km).
