Islington is a very special, small, luxury hotel with a long history and a large and delightful garden, affording quite special views of Mount Wellington. Decorated with fine artworks and furnished with antiques, Islington appeals to those who want the very best in life, surrounded by great service, presented in an atmosphere of serenity, luxury and tranquillity. Built in 1847, Islington is a fine example of Regency architecture recently restored to showcase its original glory and up-dated to include the little necessities and amenities our forebears over-looked, such as a mountain-view pavilion and a fine wine cellar. Islington is a curated hotel. Corridors and rooms are filled with art and antiques, an ancient, modern and eclectic mix of 30 years of traveling around the world, added together with the historic nature of Islington itself and the owner's family history in Tasmania.
Eleven rooms in total, comprising two Garden deluxe rooms, four Garden rooms, and a Courtyard room with its own courtyard make glorious use of the garden with many rooms opening out through French doors to the rhododendron and azalea gardens.
In the residence, the four bedrooms are sumptuously outfitted in fabulous fabrics, fine antiques and deeply comfortable Islington Angel beds that guests never wish to leave. Each room has a very distinctive design flourish, celebrating one of the many early Tasmanians who provided inspiration for the hotel.
Upon arrival, the portico-ed entrance opens into an expansive marble floored hallway from which extends a library stocked with the aforementioned Louisa Anne Meredith illustrate books on early Tasmania, a drawing room for the taking of tea and a morning room where the sun shines by day and the log fires crackle by night.
Opening from the hall is the centre piece of the hotel, the conservatory, that adjoins the country kitchen and extends onto a marble paved terrace, beyond which is a 35 sq metre reflecting infinity pond, a mountain view pavilion and, towering in the background, the ever changing beauty of Mt Wellington.
From champagne on the marble terrace, looking through the Murano Glass illuminated spires floating on the black marble pond reflecting the soaring nature beyond; from the serenity of the open air Glass Pavilion with its own log fire and special mountain views, to the just opened, single iris flowering near the lily pond, every moment at Islington is discovery and an event in itself.
The Library at Islington is the place to start. Think rich mahogany, specially carved and rare Tasmanian timbers, big tables, comfortable chairs, animal prints and patterns, and you have a room for serious debate, for board meetings, for specially arranged dinners, for a product launch.
With only 11 bedrooms Islington can become a private venue for your meeting. So be at ease to know that privacy and total confidentiality can be ensured.
