Luxury Australian Getaway with Garry

We often forget, when planning our next getaway, the beauty in our backyard. And, as such we don't realise how lucky we are that in amongst the untouched wilderness of this spectacular landscape are luxury properties which offer once in a lifetime experiences in some of the most beautiful locations on Earth. And the best part? You don’t even need a passport to get there.

One of my most recent experiences of these luxury hotels and spas was in the Blue Mountains, near Lithgow, at Emirates’ Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa and my stay only further confirmed for me how wonderful a holiday in Australia is.

Garry

Tucked away in the valleys of the Blue Mountains there is a 4000 acre private reserve and nestled within it is Wolgan Valley. Awarded Australia’s Best Relaxation and Spa Hotel in the 2014 Travellers Choice Awards by TripAdvisor this is luxury in the lap of nature.

Descend past ochre cliffs and through dense, untouched bushland in your 4WD escort and marvel as the Wolgan Valley property opens up before you. Set on heritage farmland 40 cabins are scattered along the grass plains with a helipad if the dirt road entry doesn’t suit you.

Rainbow over the valley

Wolgan Valley is the ideal retreat, with cabins ranging from the lower tariff Heritage Suite to the Wolgan Suite which has its own staff quarters, is fully self-contained and sleeps up to six people. All accommodations offer separate living and bedroom areas, large bathrooms (with two sinks and mirrors to avoid early morning squabbles) and double-sided fireplaces. But the devil is in the detail and Emirates has ensured that in Wolgan Valley the details are not forgotten. Relax in your private 7 metre swimming pool which, heated and contained within a glass house with retractable walls, give you the option of swimming with or without the fresh bush air.  Or, you might choose to lounge on your custom-designed king-sized bed which is so comfortable that, rumour has it, guests have ordered them for their own homes.

My own Heritage Suite at Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa

The tariff at Wolgan is all-inclusive and allows you to enjoy guided bush-walks or horse riding throughout the valley or learn from local indigenous conservation experts. The included dining is superb – regional, seasonal and organically sourced products are used wherever possible with menu changes daily. Enjoy Australian wines and cheeses as you sit on the deck and marvel as the sunset transforms into starry skies above the valley.

Local wildlife in Wolgan Valley
Indeed, it is in the combination and contrast of luxury and the down-to-earth surrounding that Wolgan finds its charm – you could be lounging by your fireside with a glass of wine and witness a wallaby bound past your window, or perhaps be swimming laps in your personal pool to the song of kookaburras through the morning mist. Such is the magic of this unique property.

My stay was a perfect escape – the location was so magical, the accommodation so welcoming that you can’t help but wish this could be your weekend getaway from the city life of Sydney.

But Wolgan Valley is only a taste of the wonderful properties on offer in spectacular locations around Australia. Our famous outback holds accommodations that you will marvel at, so surprising is their comfort in such a harsh landscape.

Longitude 131°
Longitude 131° is a luxury camping facility within eyesight of Uluru. By night you dine under the endless starry constellations in the crisp night air and sleep under your canopy roof to the silence of the desert, by day you explore the surrounding wilderness with world renowned vistas and sacred indigenous sites.

Images of El Questro Homestead
Or, if you’ve already seen all there is to see at Uluru, then why not stay in the lavish accommodation at El Questro Homestead in the Kimberly Region of Western Australia. Set in its own one million hectare wilderness park the property is remote and exclusive, offered only to a precious few. Accommodating a maximum of 18 guests it’s little wonder that El Questro was included in the ‘prize pack’ at the Academy Awards.

Accommodation at One & Only Hayman
If the Big Red isn’t your calling, or you want to continue your luxury Australian getaway then why not head to another of our natural wonders - the Great Barrier Reef? Located on Hayman Island - the most northerly of the Whitsunday Islands group - One & Only Hayman is a unique 5 star resort. Renowned for its elegance, location and attention to luxurious detail this resort, the only one on the island provides the seclusion and comfort to ensure that your stay on the reef is something magical.
All around Australia luxury properties await exploration; don’t miss the opportunity to see your country in a whole new way. Below is a further selection of the luxury Australian properties FirstClass offers:
