The USA Deep South and Florida

The Southern United States is a region of the country so diverse in culture, music, tradition and cuisine that around every corner you will find something new to peak your fancy. the sparkling beaches and colourful fantasylands of Florida to the jazz and gumbo in New Orleans you are in for the journey of a lifetime.

Steeped in culture, tradition, music, mouth watering food and the smell of local bourbon the United States deep south is a place like no other.

Our journey begins in the historic state of Louisiana in the city of New Orleans. The infamous Big Easy is a historic city abuzz with modern life, just take a stroll along the four hundred year old cobbled streets of the French Quarter with a cocktail in hand and waves of soulful jazz drifting through the humid bayou air to find out that New Orleans is like stepping into a dream.

Last year named one of the best trips of 2014 by National Geographic Traveller, New Orleans is one of the most culturally and historically diverse centre's in the USA. The Vieux Carré or French Quarter sits alongside the crescent of the Mississippi River and forms the key cultural hub of the city. The clash of Spanish, French, American and even Creole architecture makes the area into a singular beauty that has inspired the backdrop of literary classics and Hollywood hits alike. While you're in the area be sure to go to the local French Markets, the oldest surviving public market in the country.

While the iconic architecture of New Orleans draws flocks of tourists to her streets every year it is the nightlife and music that keep them coming back. Renowned as the birthplace of jazz in the USA and boasting home grown talent like Louis Armstrong, the tradition of music is very much alive in New Orleans, with a multitude of outdoor music events and iconic clubs to choose from, music lovers will be spoilt for choice.

If you like to accompany your music with a aperitif or two then you will never go thirsty in New Orleans, with a plethora of world class bars, restaurants and the famous Bourbon street you will get to experience the true meaning of southern hospitality first hand. With festivals and events running all year round, including the world famous Mardi Gras and the incredible New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in May, whichever time you choose to travel, the Big Easy will always be jiving.

Graceland, Memphis
Graceland, Memphis

Heading north along the Mississippi river you find a change of musical style as you enter the music Mecca state of Tennessee, home to both Memphis and Nashville.

The home of the king, Memphis boasts to be the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll, the home of the blues and the starting point of soul. With music legends including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, B.B. King, W.C. Handy and Otis Redding making their mark on the city, they aren't wrong and for anyone who loves old school rock and roll, Memphis is a must! Visit Graceland, Sun Studio, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music and the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum. At night, take a walk down Beale Street and listen to the live music Memphis makes today.

Following the tang of acoustic guitar we head west to Nashville, the undisputed capital of country music. If you are a fan of country music, or love , then Nashville is like a dream come true. The city lives and breathes music with dozens of year round attractions like the Country Music Hall of Fame, the iconic RCA Studio B where Elvis recorded over 200 songs,  and the brand new Johnny Cash Museum. If you are lucky enough to be travelling around June then Nashville will be truly alive for their annual CMA Music Festival that draws country stars from all around the world.

Leaving the music behind in Tennessee we head south again for one final stop in Atlanta, Georgia. With a vibrant history spanning back hundreds of years. A trip along the Antebellum Trail is a must, this state established history tour is like stepping into the past and takes you to visit historic homes, strolling along famous battle sites and even through an authentic and perfectly preserved nineteenth century cotton farm! While you are in Atlanta you also have the unique opportunity of being close to some of the world's premier golf courses. The Peach State is home to the Augusta National and while this famous course has strict member rules you can play at other championship courses like Stone Mountain with ease.

Swan and Dolphin Resort, Disney World
Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, Florida

Unlike the often mysterious and overlooked jewels of the American Deep South, the sparkling shores and near tropical heat of Florida has its clear attraction. From the famous city of Miami on the United State's southern tip up to Orlando, whether it's a relaxing beachside getaway or an exciting family adventure that you're after than Florida can provide.

Located close to the centre of the state Orlando is one of the best family holiday destinations on the planet for one simple reason, Disney World. A fantasy land for children of all ages it is one to tick off your adult bucket list as well. Larger than its counterpart in California, roughly the size of San Francisco, Disneyworld is also host to some fantastic hotels and resorts so you don't have to trade luxury for your Magic Kingdom experience.

Leaving the magic of Mickey Mouse behind we head south again to Miami and the sparkling beaches for which Florida is famous. Miami is a true melting pot of cultures and experiences, from the trendy nightlife of South Beach, the marvelous eye candy of the Art Deco district, the bustle of Calle Ocho and the highly caffeinated energy of Little Havana.
