Enthralling India; bursting to the seams with rich culture, moving spirituality, breath taking landscapes, fascinating history and tantalising cuisine it is one of the great destinations of the world and deserves to be on everyone’s bucket list. And now, you can explore India in style with our new offering – a truly luxurious and wonderfully authentic cruise and tour package from Kolkata to Mumbai. If you’ve been longing to explore the wonders of India but never knew where to start then this tour is for you, and with flights, hotels, cruise, sightseeing and most meals and drinks included all you need to do is sit back and enjoy the journey.

Victoria Memorial Hall  Kolkata Flower Market
Victoria Memorial Hall and a Flower Market, Kolkata

You begin in Kolkata, the original capital of India is still alive and vibrant with a rich intellectual and cultural heritage – made famous as the ‘City of Joy’ by author and humanitarian Dominque Lapierre. This city offers a plethora of sites to see, from the Jain Temple to the Marble Palace or Mother Teresa’s house or the relics of the by-gone British colonial era your days spent here will be an exciting taste of what’s to come.

From Kolkata you can cruise down the Ganges marvelling at river-side temples and markets as you pass and stopping for shore excursions exploring the diverse histories and cultures of India. Your time on board your vessel – the RV Ganges Voyager – will be restful and luxurious. With a lounge, spa, sun deck and fitness centre there is plenty of areas to keep you entertained or to simply relax and watch the world go by – that is, if you find yourself desiring to leave your beautifully appointed suite.

Along your journey you will see spectacular religious sites such as the Nizamat Imambara – the largest congregation hall for Shia worshippers in India or ancient ruins of India’s lost civilisations. On other days you will enjoy unique experiences such as cooking classes and yoga practice. If you are lucky you might even spot some of the wildlife of the Ganges such as the Gangetic dolphins, otters, antelopes and osprey.

You farewell the RV Ganges Voyager before departing on a short drive to the ‘eternal city’ – Varanasi. One of the most auspicious locations for Hindu Indians you will witness the spectacle of the ‘Aarti’ on the Ganges’s banks before catching a rickshaw through the narrow lanes of this holy city.

From Varanasi you move on to India’s capital – Delhi. A mix of the old and the new the alluring city is home to sites such as India’s largest mosque, an architectural extravaganza, as well as other historical wonders such as Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial.

From Delhi you travel to the most famous building in India – the Taj Mahal. The wonder took 20,000 workers and 1,000 elephants to build and is truly a wonder of the world – all the more special is that you can view it from the comfort of your hotel bar at The Oberoi Amarvilas. But the Taj Mahal is not the only wonder in Agra – the city’s contrasting red sand stone and white marble edifices with narrow allies and quaint buggies are sure to delight.

From Agra you travel by train to Ranthambore. Spanning 65,000 hectares this national park is home to river, forests and open bushland through which roam creatures such as tigers, leopards, sloth bears and langur monkeys – if you book a suite room, after your days of game drives and animal-spotting, you will return to your own luxury tent (stateroom guests may upgrade if they so choose for an extra fee).

Continue on to Jaipur – the home of palaces and Mahal’s – where you will experience elephant rides and champagne lunches all in one day. From Jaipur you continue to Jodphur, a city that contains the relics of the ancient Silk Road, onto Udaipur – the ‘Venice of the East’ – where blue water lakes reflect the green hills and palaces and finally to Mumbai. You will have a few days to enjoy Mumbai and its beautiful harbour, palm-fringed shores which rise gradually to mountain peaks and fascinating relics of history.
