Seabourn has honoured the newest addition to its family, Seabourn Ovation, by holding a dazzling naming ceremony in the port of Valetta, Malta.
The vessel was officially christened by the ship’s ‘godmother’, British actress and singer Elaine Paige OBE. After her performance, she carried out the blessing in the long-standing naval tradition of releasing a bottle of Champagne to break against the ship.
Also marking the occasion was the debut of Seabourn’s new anthem ‘We Sail to See the Lives of Others’, which has been written by Sir Tim Rice. As entertainment for the duration of the evening, a full orchestra was appointed on the pool deck, whilst a spectacular fireworks display topped off the night and illuminated the harbour.
In a statement at the event, Seabourn President, Richard Meadows said, “The launch of Seabourn Ovation brings us to a new era for Seabourn where we further reinforce our position as the newest, most consistent fleet in the ultra-luxury cruise category.”
“The ship is another major step forward in the growth of Seabourn and an opportunity for us to provide guests with the finest luxury travel experience available at sea today. Like her sisters in our fleet, Seabourn Ovation is such a beautiful ship, and I know that guests and cruise industry observers are going to be very impressed from the moment they step on board.”
Seabourn Ovation is the fifth ultra-luxury vessel to join Seabourn’s fleet of Odyssey-class ships. Highlights of the new Seabourn Ovation includes an additional deck, larger public areas, and a new al fresco dining venue ‘Earth and Ocean at The Patio’.
The ship can accommodate 600 guests in 300 all oceanfront suites with private verandas, along with all the modern design elements that are synonymous with the Seabourn brand.
Seabourn Ovation’s maiden voyage departed on May 5, on the 11-day inaugural Mediterranean Spring cruise Barcelona-bound, then embarked on the 14-day Vintage Europe bound for Amsterdam, then on to a 14-day Midsummer Baltic destination Denmark, before moving on to Russia for a 7-day The Baltic & St Petersburg itinerary.
