Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Manaus.

Welcome to Manaus, a compact city in the middle of the jungle. Located in the northern part of the country, the capital of Brazil’s largest state, Amazonas, Manaus is an ideal starting point when visiting the rest of the Amazon region. On arrival you will be met by a local A&K representative and assisted with a private transfer to your boutique luxury property. Ease into your Amazon adventure and step out to discover the city’s charming museums and restaurants.

Day 2

Manaus – Amazon, Anavilhanas National Park.

Embark on your tour of this engaging city. Explore the old town and learn about the height of the rubber boom, when Manaus was a byword for luxury. Stroll through the main square, admire the Municipal Market, a superb Art Nouveau structure modelled modelled by Gustave Eiffel after Les Halles in Paris and built in 1906 of imported cast iron. Admire the clock tower, affectionately known as “little Big Ben”, and visit the Teatro Amazonas built almost entirely of European material during the rubber boom of the 19th century. Later set off on your private overland journey to your eco-lodge and your base for a foray into the world’s largest tropical rainforest. You can choose to travel by private seaplane (additional charge) and soak up en route the views of some 400 islands among the labyrinthine twists and turns of the Rio Negro.

Days 3-4

Amazon, Anavilhanas National Park.

Spend two whole days exploring the Amazon, your way. Anavilhanas Lodge offers an impressive menu of included activities to choose from, whether it be by boat, canoe or on foot. See wildlife, visit local communities, learn from native Indians how to use the bow and arrow or hike through the woods accompanied by your experienced local guides.

Day 5

Amazon, Anavilhanas National Park – Manaus.

Rise with the birds to breathe in the last of your Amazon experience. Then take your private transfer back to Manaus for your onward journey.

Villa Amazonia

Located in the historic centre of Manaus, boutique Villa Amazonia is a renovated colonial mansion which dates back to the height of the rubber boom and preserves the character of a bygone age. Rooms are clean and comfortable with air- conditioning and overlook the central pool or garden. The hotel also boasts a restaurant and small gym.

 

Anavilhanas Lodge

Built on suspended wooden structures, Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge is an artfully designed property nestled within a vast stretch of untouched jungle comprising a series of suspended wooden structures built with natural materials perfectly in keeping with local tradition. Its air-conditioned cottages and bungalows all have en suite bathrooms and private verandas, with hammocks, offering stunning surrounding views over the forest. The swimming pool also provides a lovely place to soak up the jungle ambience. Wildlife guides are all locals from the area who conduct expeditions by boat, canoe and on foot.
