The experience begins with a VIP welcome in the capital before a stint in the Cultural Triangle visiting some of Sri Lanka’s most impressive World Heritage sites. There’s a pooja ceremony at Kandy’s Temple of the Tooth and a tea plantation experience. Boutique hotels are a feature and it can be easily combined with a beach stay. Day One

Arrive Colombo

A warm VIP welcome on arrival to Sri Lanka and transfer to your hotel.

Day Two

Colombo – Cultural Triangle

This morning you are collected and transferred north into the heart of the Cultural Triangle and your glorious rural retreat, set amidst paddy fields.
Accommodation: Ulagalla Resort (Ulagalla Chalet)

Day Three

The Cultural Triangle

This morning you are driven to the cliff top citadel of Sigiriya (approx. 1.5 hrs). Dating to the 5th century, this World Heritage site is a complex of buildings, part royal palace and part self-contained town on par with the best in the ancient world. Climb to the top and admire the famous frescoes en route. This afternoon visit the World Heritage site of Polonnaruwa, the second capital city of Sri Lanka built in the 11th and 12th centuries. The site is an interesting blend of Buddhist and Hindu archaeological monuments.

Day Four

Cultural Triangle – Kandy

After breakfast you head south to Matale (approx. 1.5 hrs) to visit a spice garden. The town is famous for its spice production and this is an excellent opportunity to see how spices are grown and processed. Arrive at your elegant boutique hotel before an afternoon city tour of Kandy including a visit to the sacred Temple of the Tooth for the uplifting pooja ceremony. The Temple of the Tooth is considered one of the most revered by Buddhists as it houses the sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha.

Day Five

Kandy – Hatton

This morning transfer south to Hatton and your charming accommodation by car. This journey is one of the most scenic as you travel through the highlands of Sri Lanka past lush green tea estates, mist covered mountains and scenic waterfalls.

Day Six

Hatton

After breakfast you are personally escorted on a morning “Tea Experience” to visit the plantations and factory. First introduced to the country in 1867 by Englishman James Taylor, today tea is Sri Lanka’s main export. You will be able to personally acquaint yourself with the art of tea plucking and learn about the full process from planting and varietal differences to the auction process and tasting. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Relax at your bungalow or explore the local trails which wind through the tea gardens by mountain bike or on foot.

Day Seven

Hatton – Colombo

After breakfast depart for Colombo (approx 4.5 hours). This evening is a privately guided tour of Colombo city. Visit the bustling bazaar district of Pettah and many other attractions including the Wolfendhal Dutch Church, the Hindu Temple and the sacred Gangarama Buddhist Temple. Pass by the Devatagaha Mosque and the residential area of Cinnamon Gardens.

Day Eight

Depart Colombo

Transfer to Colombo Airport for your onward flight.
