LATAM – From October 2019 Some Sydney to Santiago flights will be non-stop

News Update: 23 July 2019

From 27th October 2019 non stop flights between Sydney and Santiago will commence.

The current Auckland stop-over will remain in place 4 days a week and 3 days each week the Boeing 787 will dart directly between the two cities. The flight will be LA802 departing Sydney at 10am on Monday, Thursday and Saturday arriving Santiago at 9:15am (local time) the same day, with flying time of 13 hours 15 minutes. The return flight Santiago to Sydney will depart at 1:30am on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday and will reach Sydney at 6:15am the following day with a flying time of 14 hours 45 minutes. The service will complement LATAM’s non-stop Melbourne-Santiago service which launched in October 2017.

Currently, the LATAM flight has a two-hour stopover in Auckland. This will not change for 4 days a week. But for the other 3 days, the Boeing 787 will do a 14-hour flight between the two cities. Unfortunately, this flight will not have Latam’s latest business class seats but I think the direct flight will make it worthwhile. Robert Alvo Latam’s Airlines Group Chief commercial officer said: “More Australians than ever are visiting South America, wanting to discover the many unique destinations of the region and we have seen equally strong demand from passengers traveling in the other direction, forging ever greater tourism and business links". He said the new nonstop Sydney-Santiago flight would improve connectivity between South America and Australia.
